The Elan Dance Theatre was established in Lakeland in 1977. We have been in Polk county longer than any other studio, and we are one of the oldest in the state of Florida. We have trained thousands of people to enjoy the art of dancing. We have also trained many accomplished competitive dancers.
The owners, Fred and Emma Oswald, are trained in American and International style dancing. Both are certified judges in all styles through the National Dance Council of America. They were professional competitors earning the title of "Atlanta Star Ball Champions".
Fred taught classes at the YMCA, city recreational facilities, community colleges and other venues before opening the Elan Dance Theatre. He has taught students from ages 6 to 95 to learn to dance. His passion is sharing his knowledge with others. He has donated his time teaching children and youth. He established the Independent Dancer's Association to provide students of all levels the opportunity to experience the fun and excitement of competition.
